This article explains how to use the Map Toolbar in the TerraGo Web Application. The toolbar includes navigation tools, map display controls, and other map-related options that help users adjust how they view and interact with records on the map.
Map Toolbar Overview
The Map Toolbar appears along the right side of the map. It provides quick access to common map controls, such as finding your current location, zooming in or out, changing the map background, adjusting map components, and opening saved or custom views.
These tools affect how the map is displayed. They do not change the underlying record data in the system.
Map Navigation Tools
Map navigation tools help users move around the map, adjust the current view, and return the map to a standard orientation.
Pan to My Location
The Pan to My Location tool centers the map on your current location. This is useful when you need to compare where you are to nearby records or assets shown on the map.
- Click the Pan to My Location icon in the Map Toolbar.
- If prompted by your browser, allow location access.
- The map centers on your current location and displays a location pin with a highlighted perimeter.
After the map centers on your location, you may want to continue reviewing the area without displaying the location pin. To hide the pin, click the Pan to My Location icon again. The map remains centered on your location, but the pin is no longer visible.
If you want to display the pin again, click the Pan to My Location icon. The map will recenter on your location and display the pin.
Zoom and Pan
Users can adjust the visible map area by zooming or panning. Zooming moves closer to or farther away from the current map view, while panning moves the visible map area.
Zooming
Use the zoom function to move closer to or farther away from the current map view.
- In the Map Toolbar, click the + button to zoom in.
- Click the - button to zoom out.
- Repeat as needed until the desired zoom level is displayed.
Panning
Pan the map to move to a different area of interest.
- Click and hold anywhere on the map.
- Drag the map until the desired area is visible.
- Release the mouse button.
Align North
The Align North tool resets the map orientation so north is positioned at the top of the map. This is useful if the map has been rotated and you want to return to the standard north-facing view.
- Click the Align North icon in the Map Toolbar.
- The map rotates back to the standard north-facing orientation.
Map Display Tools
Map display tools control how the map appears and how mapped records are visually shown. These tools help users adjust the map view without changing record data.
Map Type
The Map Type tool changes the map background. Each system has a default map type configured, but users can select a different background when needed. For example, satellite views can help users see buildings, roads, or foliage behind mapped records, while a light view can reduce background detail and make pins easier to focus on.
Available map types may include Light, Dark, Satellite, Hybrid Satellite, and Streets.
To change the map type:
- Click the Map Type icon in the Map Toolbar.
- Select the map background you want to use.
- Click the X in the upper-right corner of the Map Type dialog to apply the selection and close the dialog.
- The Web Application will now display the selected map type.
Map Components
The Map Components tool controls optional visual elements on the map. These settings help users customize how records, labels, and cards appear while they work. While the Map Components tool is part of the standard Map Toolbar, the components available inside the panel may vary based on system version and configuration.
Map components are controlled using toggle switches. Common components may include Pin Clustering, Map Labels, and Card View.
To turn map components on or off:
- Click the Map Components icon in the Map Toolbar.
- Use the available toggles to turn map components on or off.
- Close the panel when you are finished.
Pin Clustering
Pin Clustering groups nearby records into a single circle with a number. This can improve map performance and make crowded areas easier to review at a high level. As users zoom in, clustered pins may separate into smaller clusters or individual pins. When Pin Clustering is turned off, each pin displays individually.
- Turn Pin Clustering ON to group nearby records together.
- Turn Pin Clustering OFF to show individual record pins separately.
Map Labels
Map Labels display record names or identifiers directly on the map. This allows users to identify records without selecting each pin.
- Turn Map Labels ON to display record labels on the map.
- Turn Map Labels OFF to hide labels and reduce visual clutter.
Card View
Card View controls whether a record card opens when a user selects a pin on the map. When Card View is enabled, selecting a pin displays the record card. When Card View is disabled, selecting a pin may still highlight the associated record in the table, but the card will not display.
- Turn Card View ON to display record cards when pins are selected.
- Turn Card View OFF to prevent record cards from opening automatically.

Custom Views
Custom Views allow users to access saved views from the Map Toolbar. Saved views can help users quickly return to a preferred map and table setup without manually reconfiguring the view each time.
From the Custom Views panel, users may be able to apply saved views or create new views, depending on their permissions. Custom Views can also be shared with specific users or roles when those options are available.
