Publisher for Raster allows you to set default file generation parameters specific to the ADRG, CADRG, CIB, IMG, JP2, MrSID, NITF, and TIFF file formats as well as general parameters that apply to all source image file formats.
Depending upon the source image file, you can specify the following file generation parameters:
-
whether the image style should be grayscale or RGB
-
whether the application should apply a histogram stretch to improve color balancing on visible spectrum data
-
compression type and quality
-
PDF map scale and DPI
-
whether the source image file has to be GeoRegistered
-
the version of TerraGo Toolbar to which the output file should be compatible
-
tile width and height in pixels
For all file formats you can specify the following:
-
whether the GeoPDF file displays after it is generated
-
whether the log file displays if an error occurs
-
whether to automatically generate a preview of the output image if you subset the original input image
-
whether to optimize the output file for use with TerraGo Mobile
-
whether to restore the file generation parameters to their default settings
In this section:
Accessing Publisher for Raster preferences
Navigate to Actions > Preferences or click the Preferences icon on the toolbar.
Setting general Preferences
Publisher for Raster allows you to set general preferences that apply to the behavior of the application. You can specify the following:
-
whether the GeoPDF file displays after it is generated
-
whether the log file displays if an error occurs
-
whether to automatically generate a preview of the output image if you subset the original input image, and if so, define the image resolution of the subsetted image
Open GeoPDF after generating
The Open GeoPDF after generating preference determines whether the GeoPDF file opens after PDF generation. Choose one of the following options:
-
Ask before opening (default) displays a prompt that allows you to choose whether to view the GeoPDF file after the file generation process completes. Click Yes to view the file or No to not view the file. Note: to disable the default Ask before opening behavior during the PDF generation process, check the Do not ask this question again box. If you click Yes the behavior defaults to Always. If you click No the behavior defaults to Never.
-
Always displays the GeoPDF file after the file generation process completes.
-
Never does not display the GeoPDF file after the file generation process completes.
Open log file if error occurs
The Open log file if error occurs preference determines whether the log file opens after PDF generation. Choose one of the following options:
-
Ask before opening (default) displays a prompt that allows you to choose whether to view the log file if an error occurs during the file generation process. Click Yes to view the file or No to not view the file. Note: to disable the default Ask before opening behavior during the PDF generation process, check the Do not ask this question again box. If you click Yes the behavior defaults to Always. If you click No the behavior defaults to Never.
-
Always displays the log file if an error occurs during the file generation process.
-
Never does not display the log file if an error occurs during the file generation process.
Subset Image Resolution
The Subset Image Resolution preference sets the resolution for previews of subsetted images. The default is 100.
The Subset Image Resolution option is useful for very large images because displaying large images may require more memory than is available on your machine. Reducing this value reduces the memory required to display the image and decreases the time required to load the subsetted image. The value you specify does not affect the output GeoPDF file.
Automatically generate preview after subsetting
Un-check the Automatically generate preview after subsetting box if you want to prevent Publisher for Raster to generate a preview of the subsetted image. The default is checked.
Optimize for TerraGo Mobile
Check the Optimize for TerraGo Mobile box to allow the file generation process to optimize the GeoPDF file to be viewed on TerraGo Mobile. The default is unchecked.
When you check the Optimize for TerraGo Mobile box, Publisher for Raster sets all of the Make Compatible With parameters to TerraGo Toolbar 3+ and Mobile (OGC). The Make Compatible With list box appears in the Image Defaults settings for CADRG, CIB, IMG, JP2, MrSID, NITF, and TIFF file formats in the Preferences dialog box as well as in the Advanced Options dialog box.
Setting default file generation parameters for ADRG files
The Preferences dialog box displays the default file generation parameters that Publisher for Raster uses when generating the GeoPDF file(s) from the ADRG .GEN file for the dataset. You can alter those default parameters to configure unique parameters. When you want to generate a GeoPDF file with parameters other than those specified, you can alter specific parameters on the Publisher for Raster main window.
You can specify parameters that create a combined coverage map, an overview map, and subfolders. You can specify compression type, provide text to append to all output file names, as well as specify PDF map scale or DPI.
Accessing ADRG file parameters
In the left pane of the Preferences window, expand Image Defaults and then click ADRG.
ADRG Options
Enable or disable the following options:
-
Create Combined Coverage Map: The file generation process creates a combined area coverage map.
-
Create Overview Map: The file generation process creates an overview map that displays at 1/16 of the original ADRG resolution.
-
Generate Subfolders: The file generation process creates the output GeoPDF file(s) in subfolders based on the product name.
PDF Layout Style
Choose the label format that you want to display on the output GeoPDF file:
-
Format 1 (default) generates a GeoPDF file where the labels are placed in their traditional places. The filename label displays at the top above the main map at the left margin. The scale label displays beneath the map at the left margin. The filename label displays again beneath the scale label.
-
Format 2 generates a GeoPDF file where the map name label displays at the top above the main map at the left margin. The scale label displays beneath the map at the left margin. To the right of the scale label is the Limited Distribution label that includes the agencies approved to receive the map. The filename label displays beneath the scale label.
Compression Type
The Compression Type list box is disabled and defaults to JPEG. In the Quality spin box, choose the default value for JPEG image quality. The initial default is 80.
Naming Suffix
In the Naming Suffix text box, type the default text to be appended to all output file names.
Print Options
Choose one of the following default print options to be used:
-
Default (default): the file generation process uses the original image source scale as the output scale, and the original image DPI as the output DPI.
-
DPI: choose the default image resolution. The initial default is 300.
-
Scale: choose the appropriate output map scale. The default is 15000.
Setting default file generation parameters for other file types
You can set the default file generation preferences that Publisher for Raster uses when generating GeoPDF files from CADRG, CIB, IMG, JP2, MrSID, NITF, and TIFF file formats.
You can specify parameters for compression type, require that the source image file be GeoRegistered, specify the version of TerraGo Toolbar with which the output file should be compatible, specify whether the image style should be grayscale or RGB, provide text to append to all output file names, specify PDF map scale or DPI, and specify whether the application should apply a histogram stretch to improve color balancing on visible spectrum data. You can also specify tile width and height in pixels.
Note: Samples larger than 8 bits are scaled to 8 bits.
Accessing file generation parameters
In the left pane of the Preferences window, expand Image Defaults, and then click on the file type whose parameters you want to define.
For CADRG files, only image subdatasets are supported. Multiple image subdatasets can be generated. The alpha band is unsupported.
Compression Type
Choose a compression method:
Require Georegistration
Un-check the Require Georegistration box to prevent the file generation process from requiring the file to be GeoRegistered. The default is checked.
Make Compatible With
Choose the version of TerraGo Toolbar with which the GeoPDF should be compatible. The default is TerraGo Toolbar 3+ and Mobile (OGC).
-
TerraGo Toolbar 3+ and Mobile (OGC) requires that the GeoRegistered PDF files to be assembled in a map or a MapBook be encoded using TerraGo's GeoRegistration encoding method that was published as an OGC best practice in 2008. The OGC best practice is the most widely distributed GeoRegistration encoding in terms of existing PDF libraries and workflows because GeoPDF was the only geospatial PDF available preceding the release of Acrobat 9.
-
TerraGo Toolbar 5+ (OGC Preferred) prefers that the GeoRegistered PDF files to be assembled in a map or a MapBook be encoded using TerraGo's GeoRegistration encoding method, but allows GeoRegistered PDF files encoded using the ISO 32000 method.
-
TerraGo Toolbar 5+ (ISO Only) requires that the maps to be assembled be encoded using the ISO 32000 GeoRegistration encoding method.
Note: Adobe implemented a different PDF GeoRegistration encoding when it released Acrobat 9 and submitted that method to ISO as a proposed extension to ISO 32000. Both OGC and ISO GeoRegistration methods encode the same information; however, more coordinate systems are supported using Adobe's GeoRegistration encoding. TerraGo software is capable of reading and writing both encoding methods.
Image Style
Choose the default color model to be used:
-
Default: Publisher for Raster uses the band information and number of bands in the source image file
-
Grayscale: in the Band box, specify the band number that represents the panchromatic (black and white) band to be used in the base map image
-
Static RGB: the band numbers to be associated with the red, green and blue bands
-
Dynamic RBG: specify the names of the red, green and blue bands as needed, and then modify the numbers associated with those bands as needed
Naming Suffix
In the Naming Suffix box, choose the default text to be appended to all output file names.
Print Options
Choose the default print option to be used:
-
Default (default): the file generation process uses the original image source scale as the output scale, and the original image DPI as the output DPI.
-
DPI: choose the default image resolution. The initial default is 300.
-
Scale: choose the appropriate output map scale. The default is 15000.
