The GeoMeasure The tool contains two measurement tools: Measure Length and Measure Area.
When you select a measure tool, the appropriate measure dialog box appears displaying total length or total area, azimuth and magnetic bearing, if configured, of what you want to measure.
When you use the measure tools on a 3D map, you can use the shortcut menu to complete a measurement, locate or clear a point, remove the last line drawn, or remove all lines drawn.
For instructions on how to access the GeoTool tool, see Accessing the GeoPDF Toolbar.
In this document:
Measuring Length
When you select the Measure Length tool, the dialog box displays the total length, the current segment length, azimuth and magnetic bearing, if configured, of what you want to measure. It also displays the previous segment length, azimuth and magnetic bearing as well as the previous total length, thereby allowing you to compare the measurements.
To measure length on your map:
-
From the TerraGo GeoPDF Toolbar, click GeoMeasure , then Measure Length.
-
Click your map to create the starting point. A single-click inserts a vertex. A right-click removes the last segment.
-
Continue clicking your map to create the length to measure.
-
Double-click your map to finish the line measurement.
When you complete your first length measurement, the total displays in the Totals group box at the top of the dialog box. After you complete your second length measurement, the first measurement total displays in the new Previous Totals group box at the bottom of the dialog box and the second measurement total displays at the top of the dialog box. If you start a third measurement, the second measurement total replaces the first measurement total at the bottom of the dialog box. The previous totals are cleared when the measurement is removed.
-
To convert your measured length to a GeoPolyline, click Convert to GeoMark.
-
As with other GeoMarks, you can add attachments through the GeoMark Editor and then export your GeoMark for use on GeoPDF Publisher for ArcGIS, TerraGo Composer and the TerraGo GeoPDF Toolbar.
-
The units that display in the Measure Length dialog box as well as the magnetic bearing are set in the GeoMeasure Tool Options pane in the TerraGo Preferences dialog box. To access this dialog box, from Edit on the main menu, click Preferences, then TerraGo. Modify the fields as needed and then click OK.
Measuring Area
When you select the Measure Area tool, the dialog box displays the total area and perimeter, the current segment length, azimuth and magnetic bearing, if configured, of what you want to measure. It also displays the previous segment length, azimuth and magnetic bearing as well as the previous total length, thereby allowing you to compare the measurements.
To measure area on your map:
-
From the TerraGo GeoPDF Toolbar, click GeoMeasure, then Measure Area .
-
Click your map to create the starting point. A single-click inserts a vertex. A right-click removes the last segment.
-
Continue clicking your map to create the area to measure.
-
Double-click your map to automatically complete the polygon.
-
If you are within the specified tolerance (10 pixels) of completing the polygon, the cursor will change. A single-click automatically completes the polygon.
When you complete your first area measurement, the total displays in the Totals group box at the top of the dialog box. After you complete your second area measurement, the first measurement total displays in the new Previous Totals group box at the bottom of the dialog box and the second measurement total displays at the top of the dialog box. If you start a third measurement, the second measurement total replaces the first measurement total at the bottom of the dialog box. The previous totals are cleared when the measurement is removed.
-
To convert your measured length to a GeoPolygon, click Convert to GeoMark.
-
As with other GeoMarks, you can add attachments through the GeoMark Editor and then export your GeoMark for use on GeoPDF Publisher for ArcGIS, TerraGo Composer and the TerraGo GeoPDF Toolbar.
-
The units that display in the Measure Area dialog box as well as the magnetic bearing are set in the GeoMeasure Tool Options pane in the TerraGo Preferences dialog box. To access this dialog box, from Edit on the main menu, click Preferences, then TerraGo. Modify the fields as needed and then click OK.
Totals
When you complete your first length or area measurement, the total displays in the Totals group box at the top of the dialog box. After you complete your second length or area measurement, the first measurement total displays in the new Previous Totals group box at the bottom of the dialog box and the second measurement total displays at the top of the dialog box. If you start a third measurement, the second measurement total replaces the first measurement total at the bottom of the dialog box.
The Previous Totals group box in the Measure Area dialog box displays the total area and perimeter, while the Previous Totals group box in the Measure Length dialog box displays the total length. The previous totals are cleared when the measurement is removed.
