The Batch GeoRegistration tool allows you to GeoRegister multiple PDF files in a batch process via a GeoPDF template file, which you can create using the GeoRegister tool. The Batch GeoRegistration tool uses the coordinate information in a map definition file and the GeoPDF template file to perform the batch GeoRegistration process. For sample map definition xml and csv formats, see Map Definition Files.
To use the Batch GeoRegistration tool, the PDF files, the GeoPDF template file, and the map definition file must reside in the same directory. In addition, the map frame in each PDF file must be located in the same position on the page, and all of the map frames must be the same width and height.
For instructions on how to access the Batch GeoRegistration tool, see Accessing the GeoPDF Composer Toolbar.
In this document:
Identifying the map definition file
-
From the GeoPDF Composer Toolbar, click the Batch GeoRegistration tool.
-
In the Batch GeoRegistration dialog box, click Browse to navigate to the location where the map definition .csv or .xml file resides.
-
Select the file and then click Open.
Specifying GeoPDF Toolbar compatibility
From the Make Compatible With list box, click the version of GeoPDF Toolbar with which your assembled map must be compatible. The default value is the GeoRegistration encoding method you specified in the GeoRegistration Format Compatible With list box on the TerraGo Preferences dialog box. If you did not specify an encoding method, the default for the GeoRegistration Format Compatible With list box is GeoPDF Toolbar 3+ (OGC).
GeoPDF Toolbar 3+ (OGC)
-
GeoPDF Toolbar 3+ (OGC) requires that the maps to be assembled be encoded using the TerraGo GeoRegistration encoding that was published as an OGC best practice in 2008. The OGC best practice is the most widely distributed GeoRegistration encoding in terms of existing PDF libraries and workflows because GeoPDF was the only geospatial PDF available preceding the release of Acrobat 9.
-
This option is useful if you know that all of the maps to be assembled were encoded using the OGC best practice and your users are running an older version of the GeoPDF Toolbar.
GeoPDF Toolbar 5+ (OGC Preferred)
-
GeoPDF Toolbar 5+ (OGC Preferred) prefers that the maps to be assembled be encoded using the TerraGo GeoRegistration encoding method, but allows the assembly of maps that have been encoded using the ISO 32000 GeoRegistration encoding method.
-
This option is useful if the maps to be assembled have been encoded using either encoding method and your users are running multiple versions of the GeoPDF Toolbar.
GeoPDF Toolbar 5+ (ISO Only)
-
GeoPDF Toolbar 5+ (ISO Only) requires that the maps to be assembled be encoded using the ISO 32000 GeoRegistration encoding method.
-
This option is useful if you know that all of the maps to be assembled were encoded using Adobe's encoding method and your users are running a later version of the GeoPDF Toolbar.
Notes
-
Adobe implemented a different PDF GeoRegistration encoding when it released Acrobat 9 and submitted that method to ISO as a proposed extension to ISO 32000. Both OGC and ISO GeoRegistration methods encode the same information; however, more coordinate systems are supported using Adobe's GeoRegistration encoding. TerraGo software is capable of reading and writing both encoding methods.
-
The option selected in the Make Compatible With list box has nothing to do with the projection on which the PDF maps were based.
Identifying the GeoPDF template file
-
Click Next.
-
In the GeoPDF Template dialog box, click Browse to navigate to the location where the GeoPDF template file resides.
-
Select the template and then click Open.
-
Click Next.
Finishing the Batch GeoRegistration
-
In the Output Directory dialog box, click Browse to navigate to the location where the output GeoRegistered files should reside. Note: If the output directory is the same as the location where the original files reside, the GeoRegistration information overwrites the original files.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Finish.
-
The GeoRegistration progress bar appears in the lower right corner of the Adobe Acrobat application. Note: If any PDF file to be GeoRegistered cannot be encoded using the method specified in the Make Compatible With this box, an error message appears identifying the PDF file. Click OK to close the error message.
-
In the Results message box, click Yes to view the log file or No to close the message box.
